About UsHello! We are a student run society for Engineering students at Durham University. We aim to be a social hub for Engineering students with many added benefits such as:
|
Buddy SystemWe aim to give you a definite engineering student contact who would be happy to lend a hand when you need the help. Whereas many colleges try to make sure you're doing the same subject as at least one of your college parents, only without the guarantee.
We hope an engineering buddy would be your source of academic and department knowledge, compared to your college parents who would be answering your non-academic questions. For example, it is often asked which discipline is the “best” when specialising at the end of the 2nd year. This is when your buddy would give you valuable information to help you make the right choice in specialising. Only first hand knowledge from a student's perspective can give you a complete picture about each of the four streams at Durham. |
The Execs 2014
President: Jo Spencer
Hey! My name is Jo and I'm the current President of EngSoc. My responsibilities cover the running of the society, which include organising and promoting membership, communications, and sponsorship. An important part of what I do is liaising with industry to provide all the informative talks we host throughout the year. We are an enthusiastic exec who wish to deliver a reliable and helpful service for members of the society, and we aim to encourage a passion for engineering to all those who wish to get involved. |
Vice President: Milla Adams
Hi, I’m Milla and I am a fourth year Civil Engineering student and Vice President of the Engineering Society. I have been an active member of the EngSoc exec since my second year and I have been involved in running the numerous careers talks and networking events in the last couple of years. I have also helped put on the annual Sciences Ball and I introduced the engineering buddying scheme last year. If you want to know more about the Engineering Society or just about the course itself, do not hesitate to contact me :) |
Postgraduate Officer: Andrew Messenger
Hello, I'm Andrew, the postgraduate officer of the Engineering Society. My day job is as a second year PhD student studying turbomachinery sealing technology, normally to be found making loud noises in the thermo-fluids lab. I am also the team principal of Durham University Electric Motorsport (DUEM), helping to build a solar car to race in 2015. I previously studies Aeronautics at Durham, having graduated in 2013. My job in DUES is to represent the views and interests of postgraduate students in the society. In previous years I have been involved in the society, and was even the treasurer from 2011 to 2012! |
Publicity Officer: Kyle Wong
Hello! I'm Kyle and I am the Publicity Officer this year. As my position name suggests, I am responsible for the overall publicity of the society. That includes promoting our events, making posters, maintaining our website/Facebook and much more! I look forward to speaking to many of you over the next year! |
Social Secretary: Matt Gilmore
Hi, I’m Matt and the social secretary for DUES this year. I’m in my fourth year doing the new and renewable energy stream and am interested in sustainable development. I will be organising some socials during the year and we will also have our annual ball! My aim is to make DUES a bit more of a sociable society and try to put on a couple of interesting events over the year. |
